Ahrefs and SEMrush: two amazing services for website owners, SEO, and Marketing Specialists, as at the end of the day, what we all want is to check the results of our campaigns, receive an all-in-one report to help us understand our weak and strong spots, and move towards improving our SEO and Marketing campaigns.
Both of these services have all the features you could possibly need. You can find reviews in G2 Crowed.
Just to make it clear
This is not a review, what I have here is a comparison of the features offered by Ahrefs and SEMrush.
I hope that this article will help you decide what you really need, whether it’s excellent backlinks analyses along with other SEO tools or competitor research along with SEO tools.
When it comes to backlinks, SEMrush and Ahrefs cannot be compared. Although both services offer backlinks analysis, SEMrush proves to be far less interested in improving backlinks for users and website owners, making Ahrefs the go-to-choice. The only true competitor of Ahrefs, in this case, is Majestic.
In terms of organic traffic it is hard to say who’s the best. SEMrush tracks more countries than Ahrefs does, but Ahrefs has 3 times more keywords in it’s US database.
Within the last three months, I used both of these services and can note that both do Organic Traffic analysis well, however, Ahrefs is new to this game, so you may witness changes every 2 weeks or so as it is still making improvements and has frequent feature requests from users.
Ahrefs vs SEMrush [Traffic Share]
From the screenshot taken from SimilarWeb Pro it is clear that winner by traffic share is SEMrush. Ahrefs wins only by pageviews and bounce rate. Well, in this case number of bounce rate and page views don’t show any quality measure between 2 of these excellent tools. (Note: Settings are set to 12 months traffic, worldwide)
When checking traffic share by countries (only top 10) I noticed that SEMrush is popular in US, India, UK, Spain, Turkey, Australia, France and Italy.
Ahrefs is popular in Vietnam and Japan compared to SEMrush.
Ahrefs vs SEMrush [SEO Traffic]
To know which feature is strong in SEMrush and Ahrefs, best is to analyze keywords driving organic traffic.
According to the below screenshot SEMrush is really popular, even search volume is high compared to Ahrefs, but here you go, Ahrefs is winner as a backlink checker.
As I stated in the beginning of the post SEMrush and Ahrefs cannot be compared by backlink checking feature. So when searching SEMrush vs Ahrefs you will need to expect to see comparison and understand which feature works best for each, as both are fantastic tools. Just find what exactly do you need.
SEMrush gets organic traffic from very competitive keywords which are “keyword planner” and “keyword tool”.
Excellent backlinks checker, which also has other fantastic tools
Excellent tool to do keyword research, competitor research, analyse and chose right keywords for your business to gain higher conversion
Ahrefs vs SEMrush [Technologies in Use]
Analysis of technology used in both Ahrefs and SEMrush helps us to get an idea how much effort and investment do both of them has.
Technology stack checkup is done by using SimilarTech tool, which identified 9 advertisement tech stack which are used by SEMrush and non in Ahrefs. This explains why Ahrefs doesn’t is not that much popular as SEMrush but is a very useful tool. There are many other technologies which you can check in the below screenshots or just visit pages
